Bees of Alcatraz
Pier 33 (to start, then taking ferry to Alcatraz Island)

People are all abuzz about native bees these days, and Alcatraz volunteer waterbird docent, Ros Johnson, has been observing  them on Alcatraz for a year and making a collection with a representative of each bee species found. Rosalyn earned her PhD in wildlife ecology after studying wild, native bees on Florida farms. Although her expertise is in identifying Florida bees, she's brought her passion for the subject to California and is learning the bees here with the help of Dr. Gordon Frankie's Lab at UC Berkeley. When she is not volunteering Ros is the Founder and Naturalist/Ecologist at YardBio.com, diversifying backyards and supplementing habitat for the benefit of biodiversity in the Bay Area.

Attendees of this talk will take the 8:20 am (free) staff boat to Alcatraz.
