First Ever Tamalpais Hawkwatch Ballou Point
Mt. Tamalpais - See Map Link

Join GGRO director Allen Fish, raptor biologist Step Wilson, and other GGRO volunteers for the first ever Tamaplais Hawkwatch! Although birders have counted migrating hawks in the Marin Headlands for 44 years, no one has ever done a fall hawk count along the open hilltops of Mt. Tamalpais. We will meet at Ballou Point, on West Ridgecrest just 0.6 miles west of the Rock Springs Trailhead. Counters will be up starting at 10 and, weather permitting, counting until 3 pm. Visiting birders can come at any time.

All ages welcome. Bring binoculars and fieldguide, hat, drink, and sunscreen. Ballou Point is a road-side rocky outcropping facing NW with clear views of vast Marin and Sonoma skies. There is parking (yellow marker) for perhaps 10-12 cars immediately next to the site, or parking is available at Rock Springs a half-mile to the west.
