Gravity Car Barn: How the Railroad Encouraged Hiking on Tam
Mt. Tamalpais - See Map Link

In the summer of 1930, Tamalpais Conservation Club newsletter editor Mickey O'Brien (who has a trail named for him) wrote about the railroad being scrapped saying, "Every hiker will view with regret the passing of the Crookedest Railroad." Join a presentation of how the railroad encouraged hiking on Tam. The railroad was an important part of preserving the wilderness on Tamalpais—keeping it from being developed—and the hiking community that thrived after the railroad was gone. There will also be an optional walk around the Verna Dunshee trail, one if the trails built by the scenic railway (called the Racetrack Trail back then).

Presentation will be approximately 30 minutes and will start at 1:00pm and again at 2:30pm. Parking at East Peak. Event is wheelchair accessible.

Date:
Time: 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM
