Did You Know Although the endangered fin whale that beached itself on Stinson Beach in August could not be saved, the death of the young whale did have a silver lining. Scientists from the Marine Mammal Center, a park partner located in the Marin Headlands, were able to perform a necropsy on a fresh whale carcass—a rare opportunity to expand our understanding about this mysterious species that is second only in size to the massive blue whale.
